What is Cingal?
How Cingal works
Cingal works on two fronts from a single 4.0 mL intra-articular injection. Triamcinolone hexacetonide, a micronized and poorly soluble corticosteroid, releases slowly and reduces joint inflammation for about three weeks. In parallel, the 88 mg of high-molecular-weight cross-linked hyaluronic acid restore the viscosity of the synovial fluid and cushion the joint for up to 26 weeks.
Who it is for
Cingal is for people with knee osteoarthritis pain who have not had enough relief from non-drug treatments (exercise, weight loss, physiotherapy) or simple analgesics. The dual mechanism is useful when fast relief is wanted alongside the longer-lasting lubricating effect.
When to avoid Cingal
- Infection or skin disease at or near the injection site
- Known allergy to sodium hyaluronates or corticosteroids
- Marked venous or lymphatic stasis in the affected leg
- A joint with a large, untreated effusion
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: safety not established

Side effects and safety
The most common effects are transient pain, swelling or warmth in the knee in the days after the injection. These local reactions usually resolve on their own. An acute inflammatory (pseudoseptic) flare is rare. Any sign of infection — increasing pain, redness, fever — should be reported to a doctor without delay.
After the injection
Avoid strenuous or high-impact activity and prolonged standing for at least 48 hours: running, tennis, heavy lifting. Normal walking and light activity are fine. Steroid-related relief often starts within a few days; the hyaluronic acid effect builds over several weeks.
